Math Labs with Activity – To make a Right-Circular Cylinder
To make a right-circular cylinder of given height and radius of base
- A sheet of chart paper
- A pair of scissors
- A geometry box
- A pencil
- A roll of Sellotape
Step 1: Let the given height of the cylinder be h and radius of the base be r.
Step 2: Calculate the circumference of the base of the required cylinder as 2πr.
Step 3: From the chart paper cut out a rectangle ABCD having lengths 2πr and breadth h (see Figure 38.1).
Step 4: Gently roll the rectangular piece of chart paper so that the side AD coincides with the side BC.
Join them together by using Sellotape as shown in Figure 38.1.
