**Math Labs with Activity – To make a Right-Circular Cylinder**

**OBJECTIVE**

To make a right-circular cylinder of given height and radius of base

**Materials Required**

- A sheet of chart paper
- A pair of scissors
- A geometry box
- A pencil
- A roll of Sellotape

**Procedure**

**Step 1:** Let the given height of the cylinder be h and radius of the base be r.

**Step 2:** Calculate the circumference of the base of the required cylinder as 2πr.

**Step 3:** From the chart paper cut out a rectangle ABCD having lengths 2πr and breadth h (see Figure 38.1).

**Step 4:** Gently roll the rectangular piece of chart paper so that the side AD coincides with the side BC.

Join them together by using Sellotape as shown in Figure 38.1.

**Result**

Here we have learnt how to make a right-circular cylinder out of a rectangular sheet of paper.
