Essay on Red Fort: Built in 1648, the Red Fort is a symbol of the might of the Mughal Empire. It showcases their power and majesty. Built by Emperor Shah Jahan, it is called Red Fort because it has been made with red sandstone. It is a well-known monument and famous all over the world.

The Red Fort is located on the west bank of the River Yamuna. Right in front of it are Chandni Chowk and the Jama Masjid. A fort similar to the Red Fort exists in Agra. It is called the Agra Fort and was made by Emperor Akbar.

The Red Fort has many beautiful buildings. The king used to meet the public in the Diwan-i-am which is a beautiful decorated chamber. The king used to hold important meetings in the Diwan-i-khas. It was in this chamber that the famous Peacock Throne stood. It was stolen by Nadir Shah, who took it away to Iran.

Beyond this chamber lie the private quarters. All entertainment programmes used to take place in the Rang Mahal, which is one major attraction. The Moti Mahal, or the Pearl Mosque is located next to it.

Essay on Red Fort

The Shah Burj and the War Museum are other attractions for tourists. At the entrance of the fort, is located the famous Meena Bazaar. One can buy various decorative items and artifacts from here. Earlier, from the fort, one used to get a beautiful view of the River Yamuna. Now since the River Yamuna has changed its course, one can’t have its view from the fort.

0n Independence Day, every year, the prime minister of India unfurls the national flag and addresses the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort.
