Long Essay on Independence Day Function is usually given to classes 7, 8, 9, and 10.

August fifteenth is celebrated as the Independence Day of India. Since 1947, India has been celebrating and would continue to celebrate this day every year. This reminds us of India’s freedom from foreign rule. On this day, the British left India and handed over the reins of the government to the national government of free India. This day marks the triumphs of those Indian nationalists and patriots who struggled hard and sacrificed their lives for the freedom of their motherland.

This year also, Independence Day was celebrated in my town. Early in the morning, there were processions. People sang in that calm atmosphere of the dawn. These songs were reminiscent of the brave deeds of Indian heroes. People were in a cheerful mood.

Then at 8 a.m., the national flag was hoisted at the community grounds. People came to witness this ceremony. The flag was unfurled by a dignitary, the health minister of Punjab. After hoisting the flag, the visiting dignitary gave a powerful and inspiring speech in which he described the progress of India. He also paid glowing tributes to the Indian martyrs. He encouraged the people for undergoing further hardships in order to preserve the freedom of the country. At last, the national anthem was played. The people dispersed after the national anthem.

On the whole, there was great enthusiasm among the people. All were in high spirits. Parties were thrown and invitations were extended. People also enjoy kite flying on this day and as the dusk began they leave the kites free to symbolise India’s freedom.

Independence Day celebrations are of great importance. On this day, flags flutter on the top of ail government offices. Night illuminations are also arranged. The buildings are lit up with electric bulbs that create charming sight.
